Empties Summer 2014

I have a strange assortment of empties to show you today, so I’m going to dive right in!

Sanctuary Foaming Bath Soak – This was a Christmas present from my Grandparents. It created lots of bubbles which I liked – pretty essential for a bubble bath really. It has a similar grown-up spa style scent to most Sanctuary products. This is a lovely bubble bath for people who want a simple bubble bath, without crazy colours or glitter or scents.

Lush Prince Charming Shower Gel – This was a limited edition Valentine’s Day shower gel from Lush. It smells incredible and I can’t wait to see if it comes back next year!

Sanctuary Spa Mande Lular Sensuous Foaming Shower BurstThis is a really fun and unique product to pop in your shower. It comes out the pump in a clear gel and foams up to become a creamy white mousse. I really enjoyed it.

Body Shop Almond Hand & Nail Cream – My fiancé gave me this for Christmas and it lasted through till late June, even though I use it daily! It’s fantastic stuff if you have dry hands and nails. It smells delicious, absorbs quickly, and is the best thing I’ve found for keeping my skin smooth and hydrated.

Melvita Moisture Replenishing Night Nectar – This night time moisturiser was in my You Beauty Discovery box. It absorbs quickly and didn’t make me break out, but it has a really peculiar smell. I didn’t finish it in the end.

Liz Earle Cleanse & Polish Hot Cloth Cleanser Orange Flower & Chamomile – Cleanse & Polish is my absolute favourite cleanser and I refuse to use anything else because it suits my skin best. It was nice to try a new scent, but I prefer the original.

Boots Salon Nail Shine Solution – There’s a little left in the pot, but it’s gone all gloopy so I am throwing it away. I really enjoyed this.  I used it as a top coat and it worked really well. It stopped my nails from chipping and made them look beautiful and shiny.

Sally Hansen Nailgrowth Miracle – This is another one which has gone a bit gloopy so is being thrown away. It was one of the better nail treatments I’ve tried, but not my favourite. I’m not sure I quite saw the length and strength promised.

Soap and Glory The Breakfast Scrub – I really loved this scrub. It smells absolutely delicious and it has a lovely texture. It’s not a particularly abrasive scrub, it’s more of a luxurious treat, but I will definitely put it back on my Christmas wishlist!

La Roche-Posay Effaclar A I – This was my second tube of Effaclar AI. It worked really well for me at first, but seemed to tail off towards the end of this tube, which is why it isn’t quite finished. I switched to Soap and Glory Dr Spot instead, but I do have another tube of this to try. I’m hoping that after a few months my skin will react better to it again, because it really was excellent in the end.

Empties March-May 2014

First up, apologies for the rubbish quality of the picture, I took it on my phone with bad lighting. As you can see, I have collected a pretty big stack of empties over the last couple of months, so I thought it was about time I talk you through it!

Rimmel Stay Matte Pressed Powder – This is my go to powder because it’s reasonably priced and keeps me matte for long periods of time, without making my makeup look caked on.

No 7 Stay Perfect Foundation – My absolute favourite foundation. I had repurchased before I ran out because I can’t bear to be without it!

Marc Jacobs Daisy Eau so Fresh – I adore the scent of the this perfume; it’s so sweet and light and floral. I just wish it lasted a little better. Perhaps using it in conjunction with the body cream is the answer.

Skin care

Liz Earle Cleanse & Polish Hot Cloth Cleanser – Yes there are in fact two empty tubes of this. I use it every day and sometimes twice a day. That might make it look like it doesn’t last well, but one tube will last me a good two months on average.

Body Shop Soothing Peppermint Foot Scrub – A really nice peppermint foot scrub to make your feet feel smooth and soft for summer. It was noticeable when I stopped using this over the winter how much more dead skin I seemed to have. Warning that this does dry up after a few months.

Body Shop Vitamin E Moisture Cream – I really like the scent of this and it doesn’t break me out at all, but it is quite thick and I generally prefer a lighter moisturiser.

La Roche-Posay Effaclar AI – This is a life saver if you suffer from breakouts. It helps clear up spots more quickly and can sometimes prevent a spot developing if you catch it early. I can’t imagine life without this now.

Hair care

V05 Smoothly Does It Frizz Free Creme – I swear by frizz ease creams for when I blow dry my hair because it gives some heat protection and definitely makes my hair less poofy. I quite liked this one and would consider re-purchasing

Yankee Candle Christmas Eve – This smelt so unbelievably good and to be honest I just can’t wait till Christmas to buy it again, assuming they bring it back!

Yankee Candle Black Coconut – This smelt incredible in the shop when I sniffed it, but when it was actually burning I was disappointed. It didn’t have a very strong or lasting scent so it wasn’t really a worthwhile purchase.

And another red berry candle which I can’t remember the name of. I liked it though.

February 2014 Empties

Simple Kind to Skin Refreshing Facial Wash Gel – I bought this little travel sized face wash to try in the shower and got on really well with it. I didn’t have to be super careful not to get it in my eyes because it’s very gentle. It made my face feel nice and clean without making it dry. I’d repurchase this.

Body Shop Chocomania Body Butter – Delicious smelling deep moisturising body butter, perfect for when you need some indulgence.

Lush Snow Fairy Shower Gel – One of the Christmas goodies from Lush. If you have a preference for super sweet scents, keep an eye out for this towards the end of the year.

No 7 Beautiful Skin Hot Cloth Cleanser – Having finished the whole bottle my conclusion is that my skin doesn’t love this quite as much as Liz Earle Cleanse and Polish, but it worked perfectly well and is a great alternative if Liz Earle is a little too pricey for you.

Pantene Pro V Classic Care Conditioner – Pretty much my all time favourite conditioner.

Garnier Moisture Match Protect and Glow Illuminating Light Lotion – This is a very watery moisturiser which I found left my skin looking a little shiny and oily, rather than glowy. I didn’t hate it but I wouldn’t repurchase it. I much preferred the Mattifying Fresh Cream.

Body Shop Coconut Body Scrub – An absolutely delicious smelling body scrub with large particles to exfoliate the skin.

Lush Let the Good Times Roll Cleanser – This cleanser smells like cinnamon and popcorn and has popcorn pieces inside. It feels like it exfoliates as well as cleanses. The downsides are, if it gets in your hair the smell lingers for a long time, and it can’t be used in the eye area so you need a separate make-up remover.

Richard Ward Chelsea Collection: Keratin Rehab – A really nice deep, thick conditioning treatment for your hair.

December/January Empties

I have gathered quite a stack of empties to share with you over December and January. I’ve been in the mood to use up lots of half empty things basically. As always, any products I have done full reviews of, I will only mention briefly, but the main review will be linked. I hope you enjoy!

Body Shop Hemp Hand Protector – good grief, this product lasted me one entire year! Now that’s what you call value for money. If only it didn’t stink so much.

Soap and Glory Flake Away scrub – I got this travel size pot of Flake Away in my Boots advent calendar and started using it straight away. Like all Soap and Glory products, it smells really sweet (“aromas of leafy greens, bergamot and mandarin, with floral and fruity middle notes, and a soft, sexy, musk, oakmoss, amber and woody drydown” according to the Boots website) which I really like. I’d say it’s more of a luxury product than a heavy duty scrub as the particles are very fine. It won’t revolutionise your skin care, but it will make you smell great!

Lush Catastrophie Cosmetic Fresh Face Mask – I was really pleased with this mask, but unfortunately it’s on the empty list by default. I always forget about the fresh face masks because they live in the fridge not in my bathroom. I think I only ended up using this once or twice. What a waste!

L’Oreal 3 in 1 Purifying Micellar Solution – I bought this product back when everyone in the beauty community started going crazy for it. It is supposed to remove makeup, unclog pores and tone the skin all at the same time. I found it irritated my eyes a little and made the skin of my eyelids quite sore. I also felt like my skin was never truly clean afterwards, so I didn’t rate it much.

Nina by Nina Ricci Perfume – This perfume has lasted me a whole year (my boyfriend bought it for me last Christmas) but I have sadly run out now. I’m sure it won’t be long till I repurchase it though. I really love Nina Ricci’s perfumes, they smell great, and their staying power isn’t too bad.

Rimmel Exaggerate Undercover Shadow Primer – This shadow primer wasn’t too bad actually. It stops the tell tale eyeshadow creasing that shows how long it was since you applied it. However, I don’t like the fact that the wand starts to look dirty after only a couple of uses (picking up the foundation around your eyes). It shows up all the more because it’s white. That makes it feel quite unhygienic and unappealing. I also found that it’s consistency changed towards the end of the tube, so it doesn’t last very long either.

Body Shop Raspberry Shower Gel – This stuff smells absolutely amazing. It’s definitely my favourite Body Shop scent so far; delicious!

Liz Earle Cleanse & Polish Hot Cloth Cleanser – I’ve tried a couple of cleansers since finishing this and nothing’s as good, so I’ve already re-ordered it! Enough said!

L’Oreal Ever Riche Nourishing & Taming Shampoo and Conditioner – I really love the smell of these: rich and creamy like shea butter. The conditioner was absolutely fantastic, which surprised me because I am very picky when it comes to conditioner. The shampoo worked really well too but it didn’t knock my socks off.

Neutrogena Norwegian Formula Concentrated Hand Cream – This is the little hand cream that’s been in my hand bag for dry hand ’emergencies’. I really don’t like the formula and I definitely won’t be repurchasing!

November 2013 Empties

SAM_1338Liz Earle Cleanse & Polish Hot Cloth Cleanser – This product needs no introduction because I talk about it constantly. Since I initially reviewed it I have come to love it even more and I think I have now reached the stage where I think it is worth the hype! I finished my 100ml pump bottle just before I left Manchester and quickly repurchased a big 200ml version because I can’t live without it!

Garnier Moisture Match Shine Be Gone Mattifying Fresh Cream – On the other hand this is a product I fell in love with as soon as I used it. It is really moisturising but it doesn’t leave my skin feeling greasy or oily or looking shiny. I will be repurchasing this for sure!

Radox Brazilian Infusion Shower Gel – Another empty Radox shower gel this month, and another which is supposedly limited edition but seems to have been around forever. Radox say “Revive your senses and travel to a Brazilian paradise. Our Limited Edition Brazilian inspired shower cream has been infused with exotic dragon fruit and camu camu berry, traditionally found in the Amazonian rainforest.” I can’t say I was overly mad on the smell of this shower gel. It was perfectly nice, but it wasn’t special or unique enough to blow me away.

Body Shop Strawberry Shower Gel – There isn’t much to say about this empty, except who doesn’t love a Body Shop shower gel? Reasonably priced, great range of fragrances and they lather really well.

Herbal Essences Smooth and Soft Shampoo – For some reason I have two empty bottles of this shampoo this month. I’m not sure where the second one came from, probably out of my gym bag. I don’t really have dry hair, but I had to buy this stuff because it just smells heavenly. It has mandarin extract and it smells so fruity and fresh.

Empties September / October 2013

As some of you know, I am currently in the process of packing up my life once again to move house. In the process I discovered that the bag I keep my assorted ’empties’ in was getting rather full so it seemed like a good time to discuss some of the things I’ve used up recently!

Maybelline Cover Stick Corrector Concealer in Ivory – This has been my holy grail concealer for more years than I can mention. Stick type concealers like this are scandalously underused at the moment and seem to have been discarded in favour of their cooler younger cousin the liquid concealer. I don’t really use concealer under my eyes much and I find a stick works so much better at covering blemishes. I hardly ever need to reapply this concealer during the day.

Lush Fair Trade Honey Shampoo – My boyfriend gave me this for my birthday after I dropped a couple of hints. I’m not going to lie to you, it is an absolute must that you like the smell of honey if you are going to use this shampoo! It’s very powerful and 100% just like real honey in a jar. I’m not a fan of eating honey but I do like the smell. The shampoo lathered well and left my hair feeling really clean and bouncy! I was really pleased with it.

Another empty shampoo bottle is the Herbal Essences Hello Hydration Orchid and Coconut Shampoo which is an old favourite of mine. I don’t really have the dry, damaged hair it is designed for but I buy it for the smell anyway! It makes me think of holidays in tropical, exotic countries.

You can read more about the Elemis Skin Clear Mattifying Moisturiser here  and the Aussie Miracle Moist Conditioner here.

Palmolive Soft and Gentle Wild Rose and Vanilla Deodorant – I am a big fan of the Soft and Gentle range of deodorants as I think they work really well and last all day. This is one of my favourites. It basically smells of exactly what it says on the tin: rose and vanilla. It isn’t overpowering or at all granny-ish.

Maybelline Volum’ Express The Colossal Waterproof Mascara – There’s a bit of a funny story as to why there are two empty mascaras here. I recently discovered an old stash of make-up in an old travel beauty bag. I very stupidly put the mascara next to the mascara I was using and then when I went back to it couldn’t remember which one was new and which was a year old! To be on the safe side I decided to throw both out.

I really love this mascara, it’s my all time favourite waterproof formula. I swear I can shower, swim, cry a bucket and it just won’t budge or even create that infamous dark smudge under my eyes, unless I rub my eyes vigorously. I’ll definitely purchase it again soon and it will be about my 18th one! That shows it’s got to be good!

La Roche Posay Physiological Cleansing Gel – I won’t say much about this cleanser as you can read my full review here. In general, I think the fact that it struggles to remove eye make-up lets it down and I personally didn’t like the consistency much.

Finally there isn’t much to say about the Radox Eastern Spirit Shower Gel other than it’s limited edition, smells of lotus flower and orange blossom and is pretty amazing!
