I got these Peggy Sage nail polishes from my You Beauty Discovery box. I hadn’t tried anything from Peggy Sage before, so I was interested to try them. The colours are No. 751 Nude Poudré from the Nude Collection and No. 756 Sunny Sweetie from the Summer Collection.
Nude Poudré is a gorgeous colour. It makes my nails look really long, even though they are quite short and broken at the moment. It works like white in that respect, but its more like a champagne colour, or cream with a hint of cappuccino. It isn’t streaky or hard to build up like a lot of pale nude colours. It is now a firm favourite for work.
Sunny Sweetie is another beautiful colour. It’s a lovely coraly pink, which looks really Summery and is really flattering on your nails. Again, the quality of the polish is really good.
All in all I was so pleased with these polishes, and it’s an example of how beauty boxes can introduce you to some really amazing products you’ve never heard of.
These are the first Essie polishes I have bought. I always thought they were a bit expensive for nail polish, even though I adore the amazing bright colours in the range.
I finally took the plunge and went for these stunning polishes:
Cute as a Button is an adorable, vibrant coral colour. It’s absolutely perfect for Spring and Summer and it’s really versatile.
Play Date is a deep lilac. I don’t think you can go far wrong with lilac, it looks great on everyone.
I’m so impressed with the quality of these polishes. They are super easy to apply as they have nice, wide, flexible brushes. The polishes are fast drying and really pigmented. Just two coats will give you a deep, even colour. I’ve also found the polishes to be quite long lasting. They don’t seem to chip very easily, which is a miracle for me.
Essie has the most amazing range of bright colourcoloured polishes, so I will definitely be looking at getting more now!
Hello everyone! I hope you are having a lovely August so far. It’s time for my monthly update on my You Beauty Discovery box.
Unfortunately, I wasn’t too impressed with the selection of products this month. There always seems to be a lot of lip balms and anti-aging products. Eventually, I decided to just get the two different nail polishes on offer. I’ve never tried a Peggy Sage nail polish before, so it will be interesting to see what they are like. The colours are No. 751 Nude Poudré from the Nude Collection and No. 756 Sunny Sweetie from the Summer Collection.
As always, we got a few extra goodies. There’s a 4 in 1 nail buffer, which is good, because my nail files are quite worn now. There are also sample sizes of Jimmy Choo Eau de Parfum and Jimmy Choo Man Eau de Toilette. My fiancé will obviously be getting the man version! Finally, there’s a sachet of FaceD – 3-LURONICS Instant Effect Anti Wrinkle Cream Serum. This went straight in the bin if I’m honest. I’m so not interested in anti-wrinkle products at the moment!
Overall, not a bad box this month, but we’ve definitely had better!
You’ve seen my top 5 Spring nail colours, so now it’s time to discuss my top 5 Summer nail colours. They are the top 5 polishes I have here with me at the moment; I probably have a lot more in my collection at home.
Collection Hot Looks No. 28 Hip Hop – Can you get any more Summer than this incredibly bright, bold, fun orange colour? A couple of coats gives a really nice effect and it’s pretty long lasting too.
L’Oréal Colour Riche Nail Polish in No. 602 Perle de Jade – I completely adore this polish which is why it’s pretty much the only nail polish I have written a full blog post on. Perle de Jade is such a gorgeous colour that looks great on everyone.
Mavala No. 55 Dakar – You can’t beat a bit of pink in the Summertime. I would prefer to show you a gorgeous hot pink like Seventeen Supreme Shine in Poncho Pink, but unfortunately I don’t have any with me. This pink colour from Mavala is still pretty though because it has such a nice shimmer in it, and it looks lovely on toes especially.
Mavala No. 115 Sand Rose – This is my absolute favourite nail polish at the moment. It’s a pearlescent, shimmery pastel coral colour, if that makes sense, and it just looks amazing. It would look especially fabulous if you have tanned skin. Mavala polishes are exceptionally good quality too. I love them!
Miss Sporty Clubbing Colours Nail Polish in Popcorn – Before you run away screaming, I think yellow nails are easier to wear than most people think. This warm sunshine yellow is especially versatile, more so than a lemony yellow.
I bought the Pretty Quik Instant Nail Polish Remover when I was staying in a hotel in London. I wanted something cheap, transportable and not messy. It is basically a big sponge full of nail polish remover inside a plastic tub. You stick your finger inside the sponge (sounds weird no matter how I try and say it) and twist the pot around a few times. When you take your finger out the polish is all removed.
Note me modelling the kind of chipped polish you’d remove with this!
I was very sceptical about this and really didn’t see how it could work because it often takes me a good deal of scrubbing with a cotton pad and nail polish remover to remove polish when I have several coats on. I was absolutely amazed by how quick and easy and most importantly effective this was. It literally only took three of four turns of the polish to take it all completely off and when removing red polish there was no residual staining. I will be using this every time I travel. I would definitely be very tempted to use it on a more regular basis than that, but I don’t know how long it will last it if I use it all the time. If you’ve used this or something similar let me know.
I don’t normally do posts on individual nail polishes, but I am making an exception for the L’Oréal Colour Riche Nail Polish in No. 602 Perle de Jade because I really love it!
I bought this while staying in a hotel in London. My polish got all chipped and horrible so I popped to Boots to get nail polish remover. While I was there, I had a look at the normal make-up stands and I saw this polish. I was so in love with the colour that I bought it and tried it the same day; it’s a gorgeous pastel green colour, which reminds me a bit of Mint Candy Apple by Essie. I think this is just the perfect colour for Spring and Summer.
I had never tried a L’Oréal nail polish before, so I wasn’t sure to expect. The brush is nice and wide which helps with ease of application. Apparently the brush is one of the selling points of the polish, because it’s specifically designed to apply the colour easily and evenly. The polish itself isn’t particularly opaque on the first coat, but one or two more coats gives a gorgeous, flawless finish. The polish lasted really well; I didn’t see any chips for a good few days. Apparently this is because the polish has a built in top coat.
I know that the polish is very small, but I kind of like that, because it makes storage easier and you can travel with it. I know it might make some people think they haven’t got value for money, but I think the quality of the polish itself ensures that.
I think I will definitely be trying more L’Oréal polishes now. Any colour recommendations?
First up I apologise for April favourites being a bit late. It’s been a bit of a hectic last couple of weeks. It was my birthday, I got a horrible cold, and I got engaged! But now I’ve finally got round to it, I might as well dive straight in!
Jo Malone Peony and Blush Suede Cologne – This perfume was a cheeky treat to myself when I was in John Lewis shopping with my now fiancé. I have loved this fragrance for months, ever since a sample was sent to me. In my opinion it’s the best of all the Jo Malone fragrances. It’s floral and light, but has a hint of rich fruitiness. It’s perfect for Spring and Summer.
Mavala Nail Polish in Sand Rose – I am a huge fan of Mavala polishes and I am building up quite a collection now. I liked this one because it was much warmer than the normal nudes you get. It’s a pinky peach on the nails with an ever-so subtle hint of pearlescent shine. It wears really well and looks great with everything. As I discovered the other day, it’s a great base for nail art designs too.
Liz Earle Instant Boost Skin Tonic – After my last toner disaster, I was quite nervous to try this, but I really didn’t need to be. It has suited my skin so well. The fragrance is a bit mature, but it leaves my skin feeling really fresh and clean but not dry or tight, thank goodness!
Body Shop Ceramic Crackled Oil Burner – I just think this oil burner is such a beautiful accessory for the home. It looks gorgeous, and gives a really lovely subtle fragrance to a room.
Necklace – This gorgeous necklace is from Marks and Spencer. I spotted it while out shopping for my birthday, I liked it instantly because its so colourful and I knew it would look great with loads of different outfits, but it was £15 so I decided not to buy it. I went off to have my hair cut and when I got back my amazing mum had bought it for me! I love it because it makes a statement without being over the top or too in your face. I have been wearing it with simple silver or black studs.
Modern Family – My last favourite this month is a TV show which I have been binge watching over the last few weeks. The first two seasons of Modern Family are on UK Netflix and I have been watching it so much I am almost done and will have to find season 3 elsewhere. I just think its the perfect show for some light relief, as it’s funny, the writing is clever, and it isn’t too long so will fit in any time.
