Lush Ro’s Argan Body Conditioner

I first tried a tiny sample of Ro’s Argan Body Conditioner about 5 years ago and I absolutely loved it, but I could never justify the price tag while I was a struggling student. A few weeks ago I finally treated myself to a full size tub and I was so excited.

Ro’s Argan Body Conditioner is a thick, creamy body moisturiser you apply to wet skin in the shower or bath. You rinse it off and then pat your skin dry. It’s exactly like a hair conditioner, but for your skin. It smells amazing, like a sweeter, caramel rose scent, if that makes sense. It’s not heavily old granny floral, it’s much more modern.

This product appeals to my sense of laziness. I hate waiting for moisturiser to dry before I can get dressed after a shower, so this is perfect for me.  I don’t find it makes my skin as soft and hydrated as a good quality moisturiser, but it’s great if you are pushed for time (or lazy).

Unfortunately, this product is not at all like I remembered. The scent is the same, because it’s still fabulous, but I feel like the formula has changed. When I apply this  in the shower it makes me feel like I have wax on my skin. It doesn’t absorb the way I remembered it to. I really don’t like the feeling on my skin that much and I can never wait to rub it off properly with my towel. What a disappointment.

Does anyone know the feeling I mean? I feel like I’m going crazy!

June 2014 Favourites

SAM_2034

Rimmel Apocalips Lip Lacquers – These lip lacquers are pretty fantastic, as I think you will probably have heard from other bloggers and vloggers. They are super pigmented, come in a gorgeous range of colours, look really shiny and glossy, and last really well!

Yankee Candle Black Plum Blossom – This smells so delicious – a gorgeous hybrid between floral and fruity. Also, have I mentioned I love Yankee Candle? I have been burning this candle for ages and still it’s going!

Body Shop Coconut Body Butter – My fiancé got me this body butter for Christmas and I have been loving using it during the hot weather to add some much needed moisture back into my skin. Coconut is probably not a scent I would immediately pick and I really don’t know why, because this smells delicious!

Trek Protein Flapjacks – I have been totally obsessed with these recently. They are way better for you than standard flapjacks because they have slightly lower sugar, no horrible E numbers, and around 10g of protein per bar. They come in loads of different flavours. I think my favourites are Cocoa and Cocoa Coconut.

Whittards Very Very Berry Tea – I spotted this about a month ago and held out for a bit, but eventually caved and bought it. It looks fantastic and good for you, it smells totally delicious (hints of vanilla), and tastes incredible – so fruity!

Accessorize Earrings – I think these might have featured in a favourites post before. They are a cute pair of Accessorize earrings which one of my closest friends got me for my birthday this year. They are so cute and Summery.

Liz Earle Nourishing Botanical Body Cream

I have been banging on about Liz Earle Cleanse & Polish Hot Cloth Cleanser for so long that it was about time someone took my advice and bought it. I have now got my best friend hooked on it, and it turns out she told Liz Earle I had recommended it to her, so they sent me a free gift: Liz Earle Nourishing Botanical Body Cream. Apologies for the quality of the photo, I took it on my phone.

The Botanical Body Cream retails at £17.95, but you can get a sample of 30ml for £5.25 on the Liz Earle website.

I had no idea what this product was or what to expect. According to Liz Earle, it is a concentrated, hydrating body cream designed to help the skin retain moisture throughout the day. It contains shea butter and avocado oil,  pure orange, lavender and rose-scented geranium essential oils. Sounds like an odd combination right?

I have to be honest, the fragrance of this body cream turns me off a bit. Like most of Liz Earle’s products, it has a very mature scent. The most powerful smell I get from this product is the geranium, which doesn’t really do it for me.

The formula of the cream on the other hand is perfect for me. It is really light and doesn’t feel at all heavy or cakey. I use this straight after a shower and it absorbs into my skin so quickly that I can put my clothes on almost straight away. It doesn’t feel sticky or damp at all.

Unfortunately scent is a hugely important part of a body cream to me so while I will use this up, I won’t repurchase it.

Empties March-May 2014

wpid-20140614_111407.jpg

First up, apologies for the rubbish quality of the picture, I took it on my phone with bad lighting. As you can see, I have collected a pretty big stack of empties over the last couple of months, so I thought it was about time I talk you through it!

Makeup

Rimmel Stay Matte Pressed Powder – This is my go to powder because it’s reasonably priced and keeps me matte for long periods of time, without making my makeup look caked on.

No 7 Stay Perfect Foundation – My absolute favourite foundation. I had repurchased before I ran out because I can’t bear to be without it!

Marc Jacobs Daisy Eau so Fresh – I adore the scent of the this perfume; it’s so sweet and light and floral. I just wish it lasted a little better. Perhaps using it in conjunction with the body cream is the answer.

Skin care

Liz Earle Cleanse & Polish Hot Cloth Cleanser – Yes there are in fact two empty tubes of this. I use it every day and sometimes twice a day. That might make it look like it doesn’t last well, but one tube will last me a good two months on average.

Body Shop Soothing Peppermint Foot Scrub – A really nice peppermint foot scrub to make your feet feel smooth and soft for summer. It was noticeable when I stopped using this over the winter how much more dead skin I seemed to have. Warning that this does dry up after a few months.

Body Shop Vitamin E Moisture Cream – I really like the scent of this and it doesn’t break me out at all, but it is quite thick and I generally prefer a lighter moisturiser.

La Roche-Posay Effaclar AI – This is a life saver if you suffer from breakouts. It helps clear up spots more quickly and can sometimes prevent a spot developing if you catch it early. I can’t imagine life without this now.

Hair care

V05 Smoothly Does It Frizz Free Creme – I swear by frizz ease creams for when I blow dry my hair because it gives some heat protection and definitely makes my hair less poofy. I quite liked this one and would consider re-purchasing

Candles

Yankee Candle Christmas Eve – This smelt so unbelievably good and to be honest I just can’t wait till Christmas to buy it again, assuming they bring it back!

Yankee Candle Black Coconut – This smelt incredible in the shop when I sniffed it, but when it was actually burning I was disappointed. It didn’t have a very strong or lasting scent so it wasn’t really a worthwhile purchase.

And another red berry candle which I can’t remember the name of. I liked it though.

Body Shop Vitamin E SPF 15 Moisture Lotion

SAM_1867

I always like to use skin care products for a while before I tell you about them, because so often your skin can take weeks to adapt to a new product, so it’s hard to really get a feel for what they are like. I’ve now been using this moisturiser for several weeks so I thought I’d write a post about it!

I bought the Body Shop Vitamin E SPF 15 Moisture Lotion because I really enjoyed the smell and effect of the Body Shop Vitamin E Moisture Cream, but I ideally want SPF in my day time moisturiser, so it seemed perfect.

The moisturiser is very lightweight, much lighter than the Moisture Cream, but it isn’t too wet or watery. I normally prefer thicker moisturisers over lotions, but actually I really like the texture of this. It’s super easy to apply because it just glides on to your skin, but it also absorbs quite quickly, and I don’t have to wait ages to apply my make-up in the morning. It doesn’t make my skin feel greasy or wet throughout the day.

This product hasn’t broken me out and my skin feels in lovely condition, so I’d say it’s definitely adding that much needed moisture into my face.

The lotion also contains SPF 15 for UVA and UVB protection. We all know by now that it’s really important to protect your face with an SPF, so it’s really great to have it in your daily moisturiser. Basically, this product is great and I am loving using it!

Updated Evening Skin Care Routine

SAM_1781

This post might shock you, because unlike most beauty bloggers, I use hardly any products on my face. However, I wanted to do this updated evening skin care routine because I have finally found the products that work for me.

I would describe my skin as normal-combination. I sometimes get a little oily around my t-zone, but it’s not too bad now I’ve got a proper skin care routine.

So first thing’s first, I start by using Liz Earle Cleanse and Polish Hot Cloth Cleanser to remove my makeup and they day’s oil and general yuckiness. I rub the cleanser all over my face and then wipe off with a muslin cloth which I’ve run under the hot tap so it’s hot but not uncomfortably so. I rinse the cloth and repeat as many times as I need to. If I’ve been wearing a lot of makeup, I repeat these steps to make sure I’ve got everything off.

Most days, and especially if I’ve worn a full face of makeup, I follow up with Liz Earle Instant Boost Skin Tonic. I apply a little on a cotton pad and sweep over my face. I’m not mad on the heavy floral scent of this toner, but I like how it freshens and soothes my skin and removes any over traces of makeup left after cleansing. I have to be careful not to use toner twice a day and to give my skin a bit of a break by taking a dsy off every now and again because toners dry my skin out quite easily.

Since I have been using Liz Earle products, my skin has had shown a dramatic improvement. I used Cleanse and Polish from summer last year and stopped for a month or so to try a new cleanser. My skin got really oily again and I broke out all over the place constantly. As fast as I got rid of a spot, another sprung up. A combination of going back to Cleanse and Polish and this next product finally got my skin back under control.

After using toner, I apply La Roche-Posay Effaclar A I targeted blemish corrector to any spots or blemishes. This works really nicely at either making the spot disappear virtually overnight or significantly speeding up the healing process.

I leave the blemish treatment to dry for a minute or two and then I finish up with moisturiser. I am quite lucky with moisturisers, because unlike cleansers, different moisturisers don’t seem to have much of an effect on my skin. I like to change it up quite a lot and try new ones. I go for something quite light. At the moment I am using Body Shop Vitamin E Moisture Cream, which I really like. I think my favourite so far though is the Garnier Moisture Match Mattifying Fresh Cream because it really helps stop excess oil production in summer.

And that’s literally my entire skin care routine. It’s worked really well for me and I now can’t imagine ever using another cleanser. Of course skin care is a hugely personal thing and everyone’s skin is different, so I can’t promise this will work for you, but I think these are quite universal products and might be worth a try.

April You Beauty Discovery Box

SAM_1775

This is my very first You Beauty Discovery unboxing because I just got my very first You Beauty Discovery Box! I’d you haven’t heard of it, You Beauty Discovery is a subscription service that allows you to choose two beauty treats a month to try. They send them to you in a cute little box with some extra treats, all for £6.95.

Here’s what I chose this month.

SAM_1776

I really wanted to try either the Clayspray Glow Red Clay with Cacao Masque or the Clayspray Brightening White Clay with Ginseng Masque, but both were out of stock.

My next two choices were the Melvita Moisture Replenishing Night Nectar and the Inika Mineral Eyeshadow in Gunmetal.

The moisturiser smells a bit funky but I am reserving judgement till I’ve tried it. The eyeshadow is a gorgeous silvery shimmery shadow but very loose powder so liable to go everywhere. Still, it will be fun to use. The tiny pot is adorable too!

SAM_1777

My extra treats were a 9 bar which is a fruit and seed bar with carob topping (gluten free and wheat free) and a sachet of Antioxidant Face Cream from The Organic Pharmacy. I have eaten the 9 bar and it was okay. It kept me full for a long time and didn’t taste too bad.

Now I’m excited for next month!
