Lush Ro’s Argan Body Conditioner

I first tried a tiny sample of Ro’s Argan Body Conditioner about 5 years ago and I absolutely loved it, but I could never justify the price tag while I was a struggling student. A few weeks ago I finally treated myself to a full size tub and I was so excited.

Ro’s Argan Body Conditioner is a thick, creamy body moisturiser you apply to wet skin in the shower or bath. You rinse it off and then pat your skin dry. It’s exactly like a hair conditioner, but for your skin. It smells amazing, like a sweeter, caramel rose scent, if that makes sense. It’s not heavily old granny floral, it’s much more modern.

This product appeals to my sense of laziness. I hate waiting for moisturiser to dry before I can get dressed after a shower, so this is perfect for me.  I don’t find it makes my skin as soft and hydrated as a good quality moisturiser, but it’s great if you are pushed for time (or lazy).

Unfortunately, this product is not at all like I remembered. The scent is the same, because it’s still fabulous, but I feel like the formula has changed. When I apply this  in the shower it makes me feel like I have wax on my skin. It doesn’t absorb the way I remembered it to. I really don’t like the feeling on my skin that much and I can never wait to rub it off properly with my towel. What a disappointment.

Does anyone know the feeling I mean? I feel like I’m going crazy!

Lush Skincare Haul

SAM_2079

I had one of those days where you just want to walk around Lush and buy everything. Do you get those days?

I started at the fresh face masks. I had a chat with the assistant about which would be best for calming the redness of spots and she recommended Catastrophe Cosmetic, which is a blueberry based mask which I’ve used once before and enjoyed. I forgot about it and didn’t get more than one use out of it, so I thought I’d give it another go.

Next I spotted a product I hadn’t seen before which is the Lemon Flutter Cuticle Butter. You can rub this on any areas of dry skin, particularly cuticles, to soften them. Unsurprisingly, it smells very strongly of lemons, which is nice and refreshing.

I debated buying more of the Tea Tree Toner Tabs, as I liked it when I used it, but in the end I went for the Tea Tree Water which is a toner water you can spray straight on your face or onto a cotton pad to wipe over your skin. It’s supposed to be good for spot prone skin, so I hope it will help me with the hormonal breakouts I seem to get.

Finally, I went over to the body section to look at the one product I always look at and never buy: Ro’s Argan Body Conditioner. However, I finally gave in and bought it. This is a moisturiser you apply to wet skin in the shower or bath and then wash off. It smells really beautiful and I loved the sample I had once. I’ve always resisted because it’s around £15 for a tub, but I decided to treat myself this time.

Lush Dorothy Bubble Bar

wpid-20140801_200501.jpg

First of all, I apologise for my silence over the last couple of weeks. Life kind of got in the way of my writing, and I never want this to become a chore, so I just took a break.

So one thing that happened recently was my lovely friend Montana (Girl in the French Cravate) coming to stay. She brought me a little gift, the Lush Dorothy bubble bar. Things from Lush always go down well with me, and especially bubble bars. I hadn’t actually tried this one, so it was doubly exciting.

The Dorothy bubble bar is scented with ylang ylang and orange flower. I’d describe it as a traditional, slightly floral, soapy bubble bath scent. Sometimes that’s just what you want. The heavily fruity or flowery fragrances Lush do can be a bit much at times.

Like all Lush bubble bars, you can crumble all or half of the Dorothy bar under running water to create gorgeous bubbles in your bath water.

Dorothy turns the water a gorgeous vivid blue colour. This is perfect for a bath, much nicer than the sickly yellow colour you get from some of the Lush bath bombs.

I really enjoyed my Dorothy experience, so thank you Montana!

Summer Wishlist 2014

It’s been ages since I’ve done a wishlist post, largely because I have been completely spoilt rotten over Christmas and my birthday and have got virtually everything I could think of. However, as Summer is just around the corner, I have put my thinking cap on and come up with some things I would love to have tried by the end of the Summer. Perhaps it will give you some ideas of products to try!

Jo Malone Peony & Blush Suede Candle – I have the Peony & Blush Suede cologne by Jo Malone and it is just so delicious smelling – floral and fruity and fresh all at the same time. Why wouldn’t I want my house to smell like it to? I am also just a total candle junkie.

Nars Orgasm Blush – A friend let me try this a year ago and I have been wanting to purchase it ever since. It was basically the first blush which made me realise I can look good with blush! I’ve never looked back. It’s such a gorgeous shade and looks amazing for a night out.

Michael Todd Pumpkin Mask – After I had a complete disaster using Glam Glow’s Supermud mask (it completely broke me out like crazy) I am keen to get back on the horse and try another mask. I remember hearing great things about Michael Todd from Fleur de Force so I’d love to try it. The Pumpkin Mask in particular is supposed to be great for controlling problem skin.

Body Shop Vitamin E Hand and Nail Treatment – The other thing I am a junkie for is hand cream. I use it all the time, often more than once a day, otherwise my hands get dry and feel horrible. I really like the Body Shop Vitamin E range for the face, so I figure why not try the Hand and Nail Treatment?

Lush Turkish Delight Shower Smoothie – This is a body cleanser for in the shower which has a lovely rose scent. I haven’t tried any of the Lush Shower Smoothies yet, but I’d love to, especially as I can’t take baths so much any more. I think it would make my shower routine a bit more luxurious on days when I don’t just want to be in and out of the shower as quick as possible.

Soap and Glory Orangeasm Body Wash – I smelt this in the Boots the other day and I thought it smelt great. It’s much fruitier and fresher than a lot of Soap and Glory’s usual scents, so it will be interesting to try it out! Also, got to love that name!

Cambridge Shopping Haul

SAM_1778

I don’t think I have mentioned yet that I have moved to Cambridge temporarily for a few months. At the weekend, I took my first venture to the shops. I hit the Grand Arcade and Lion’s Yard shopping centres and the general surrounding area and finished with lunch in Yo Sushi. I thought I’d do a little haul post to show you what I bought!

When I arrived at the shopping centre I made a beeline for Lush (my spiritual home). After sniffing various bath bombs and face masks, I eventually decided to buy a small bottle of It’s Raining Men shower gel because I had a free sample in my last Lush order and it was amazing, and also Cynthia Sylvia Stout Beer Shampoo because it sounded really weird and I thought my boyfriend might like to try it (SURPRISE if you are reading this!)

After Lush I found Clintons. Clintons is my favourite place for all sorts of quirky little things; they are much more than a card shop now.  I bought beautiful floral print notecards because the print really spoke to me, a Yankee Candle in the scent Black Coconut because it smelt reeeeally good, and this adorable ceramic travel mug. I like to have a mug with a lid at work. When you are concentrating on things, coffee goes cold really quickly without you noticing, and the lid really helps to keep my drink warm until I get round to drinking it.

The Grand Arcade has a nice big John Lewis inside, so of course I went there (despite having only gone to John Lewis a week or so ago and stocking up in Liz Earle and Jo Malone). I bought three adorable Mavala nail polishes in the colours 114 Sand Rose, 164 Rose Dust and 312 Poetic Rose. To be honest I could have bought the whole display. I just adore Mavala. I also got some food storage boxes, because who doesn’t need to store things?

After a short stop in Specsavers to buy lens cleaner for my glasses, I ended up in Boots. I picked up another tube of La Roche-Posay Effaclar A I, because it’s awesome, the latest issue of Glamour magazine, Rimmel Stay Matte powder in the shade Transparent, and Sally Hansen Nailgrowth Miracle treatment for my nails.

Finally, I ended my trip by giving some money to the smallest busker in the world. She was perhaps around 6 (I’m terrible at guessing the ages of children) and was playing the harp. She was awesome!

Lush Secret Garden Bath Bomb

SAM_1713

This sweet little bath bomb is from the Mother’s Day collection at Lush. I thought it was really pretty and sounded worth a try, even though floral scents aren’t usually my thing.

Lush describe this bath bomb as having rose, sweet wild orange and rosewood oil to create a earthy, uplifting feel. It’s a really heavily floral scent and smells strongly of roses, but surprisingly I quite liked it. It wasn’t an old lady style floral scent, but quite young and fresh. One thing I liked was the fact that the scent lingers for a really long time in the air, which is something I don’t get from a lot of bath bombs.

The bath bomb turned my water a vivid emerald green colour, which was much nicer than the colour of the water after using a lot of the Lush bath bombs. After a while i noticed tiny dried flower petals floating in the water. Apparently these are rose petals, marigolds, blue mallow flowers and yellow rose buds. This is a sweet little touch, but doesn’t really add anything to the experience.

Overall this was a sweet bath bomb and would be a nice gift for anyone who likes floral scents, but I’m not sure I loved it enough to repurchase.

Easter Gift Ideas

Easter is not so far away now and if, like me, you gave something up for lent, you will probably be pretty excited. Of course Easter is the time we give chocolate eggs as gifts, but it’s worth remembering that there are lots of other things you can give as gifts at Easter time. Here are some of those, along with some more unusual ways of giving chocolate.

Lush Carrot Gift Set

6501-Carrot-cone-gift-with-content-for-web

Lush has some really awesome Easter bath goodies, and this set contains some of my favourites. The Golden Egg especially smells absolutely heavenly.

Yankee Candle Spring Votive Set

1304698

Candles make great gifts and you can’t beat Yankee Candle for quality. Yankee Candle actually have two specific Easter scents, but I find them super sickly and unappealing. These spring floral smells are much nicer as they are really fresh and really bring spring alive in your room. Pink Hibisucs especially is a gorgeous scent, and luckily you get two of those!

Hotel Chocolat Egg and Chips

egg-and-chips-2014

As well as their fantastic Easter eggs, Hotel Chocolat has some really unusual Easter chocolate. I love this fun egg and chips set. It has a  white chocolate and vanilla egg with a soft caramel yolk and milk chocolate, caramel-filled chips. Yum!

Creme Egg Tree

normal_cadbury-s-creme-mini-egg-tree

It’s a tree made of Cadbury’s Creme Eggs, what more do I need to say? This would be perfect for the Creme Egg fiend in your life. It comes in four different sizes, holding from 22 to 100 Creme Eggs!

Easter Bunny Fairy Lights

normal_cute-easter-bunny-fairy-lights

I think these bunny lights are super adorable and would really add a fun Easter touch to your bedroom or living your. I love the idea of presenting them in a bowl of hay like this (although keep an eye on them!) or you could hang them up.

Carrot Whisk

normal_carrot-whisk

If you have a keen baker to buy for, what about this quirky carrot shaped whisk. It would make a really fun, unusual gift.

Easter Jewellery

il_570xN.324872029

Jewellery is a great Easter gift and I would highly recommend checking out Neat Eats on Etsy for some unusual ideas. I can vouch for them being excellent quality. Two of my favourites from the Easter collection are the birds nest eggs and the hot cross bun ring.
