I thought I’d do a quick FOTD post because I was really happy with how my makeup turned out today. I hope you like it!
The products I used were:
- Foundation – No 7 Stay Perfect Liquid Foundation in Calico
- Concealer – Collection Lasting Perfection in Fair and No 7 Match Made in Calico
- Powder – Rimmel Stay Matte Pressed Powder in Transparent
- Blush/highlight – Revlon Highlighting Palette in Rose Glow
- Eyebrows – L’Oreal Super Liner Brow Artist in Brunette
- Eyeshadow – Dust and Buzz from the Urban Decay Naked 3 Palette
- Eyeliner – Rimmel Soft Kohl Kajal Eye Liner Pencil in Jet Black
- Mascara – Max Factor Clump Defy
And I didn’t have lipstick on in those pictures but I later used Revlon ColorBurst Matte Balm in Elusive.
When I unwrapped the Rimmel Wake Me Up Instant Radiance Shimmer at Christmas as part of a secret santa, I was really intregued as I had never heard of it before. I have been trying out the shade 002 Radiant Rose which is a pink, but it also comes in other shades, including the more natural beige 004 Shimmering Sand.
So what is this product? Well, due to the pink colour, I assumed it was a liquid or cream blusher at first, but Rimmel actually market it as a highlighter. I can sort of see why (see below), but I wouldn’t use it as a highlighter on its own because I would be worried about putting pink colour high up my cheek bones or in other places you highlight, like near the hair line. One of the more natural colours would probably be perfect for that.
Instead, I have been using this product as a blusher, but a super shimmery one for evening wear. It has quite a thick formula, a bit like a lightweight mousse foundation. At first, it’s a bit intimidating because it is very heavily pigmented.
Initial application, before blending
However, the product is very workable and without much effort blends down to give you a slightly flushed look, which is very pretty. If you blend it out more towards the end of the cheek, you will be left with shimmer towards the cheek bone and colour on the apple of the cheek, meaning you sort of have a blusher/highlighter combo going on. The product is super shimmery, almost glittery. As soon as you catch the light you have an unmissible glow to your skin. I think it would be perfect for summer time.
So any disappointments? Well, the packaging for one. Rimmel really need to get over the idea that these plastic tubes they are favouring at the moment are in any way stylish or desirable. They aren’t. Also, the staying power isn’t brilliant. It’s something that requires re-application a couple of times a day. Having said that, it’s a really nifty idea for a product and a nice little addition to my “face” make-up drawer.
I had some spare time on my hands before going out to dinner the other night, so I thought I would take the time to photograph my make-up ready to do a FOTD post. I don’t do these very often as I am still a bit self concious about putting my face out there on the internet, so please be kind!
The basic face products I used were the ones I use pretty much every day at the moment: No 7 Stay Perfect Foundation in Calico, Maybelline Cover Stick Corrector Concealer in Ivory, a dusting of Collection Lasting Perfection Ultimate Wear Powder in Light and then Bourjois Blusher in Lilas D’Or.
I took a little bit of brown eyeshadow and applied it to my brows for a little more definition and darker colour. For my eyes, I decided to go for a smokey bronze look. Instead of eyeshadow primer, I used a cream eyeshadow as a base – CK Calvin Klein Tempting Glimmer Sheer Creme Eyeshadow in Vintage Metal.
I took this deep brown (1) from my MUA Heaven and Earth palette and blended into the outer corners of my eyes and into the crease. I then took a creamy colour (2) and blended it into the inner corners to really make my eyes pop. I used Collection Fast Stroke black liquid eyeliner and finished by curling my lashes and applying a couple of coats of Max Factor Clump Defy mascara.
Apologies for the blurry photo there!
To complete my look, I used Rimmel Moisture Renew Lipstick in Heather Shimmer. I get a lot of stick from some people for using such a 90’s lipstick shade, but I really think it’s a timeless colour and perfect for Autumn.
For today’s post, I thought I’d share one of my favourite evening make-up looks with you all.
I’ll start with basic face products. To create this look I have used No 7 Stay Perfect Foundation in Calico as a base with Maybelline Cover Stick Corrector Concealer in Ivory on any blemishes. I then dusted some Collection Lasting Perfection Ultimate Wear Powder in Light to set the base make-up and added my trusty Bourjois Blusher in Lilas D’Or to add some colour to the apple of my cheeks.
I don’t generally use a lot of products on my eyebrows because I naturally have quite clearly defined eyebrows anyway, but I did apply a little brown eyeshadow from the MUA Heaven and Earth Palette just to define them a little more. I used the shade second from left on the bottom row as I have quite pale eyebrows and this colour adds a little more depth without being too dark.
I wanted to exaggerate my eyes for this look as I will no doubt be drinking and therefore end up rubbing off any lipstick I wear anyway. I started by applying Rimmel Exaggerate Undercover Shadow Primer all over my lids. I then applied a silvery grey shade from my MUA Starry Night Palette (second from left on the bottom row) all over my lids and then took a gorgeous purpley-lilac shade (far right on the bottom row) and blended it into the outer corners of my eyes.
I wanted clearly defined eyeliner for this look so I used a black liquid liner – Collection Fast Stroke black liquid eyeliner. I also applied some Urban Decay 24/7 Glide On Eyeliner in Zero to my waterline and under my eye and smudged it through a bit. I finished my eyes with Max Factor Clump Defy mascara.
Finally, I applied Rimmel Moisture Renew Lipstick in Notting Hill Nude to my lips.
These pictures are following a walk through Manchester. I don’t know what happened to my hair. It sort of developed a crazy, out of control look!
Here I am drinking a beer cocktail in Brewdog. It was delicious!
