First up I apologise for April favourites being a bit late. It’s been a bit of a hectic last couple of weeks. It was my birthday, I got a horrible cold, and I got engaged! But now I’ve finally got round to it, I might as well dive straight in!
Jo Malone Peony and Blush Suede Cologne – This perfume was a cheeky treat to myself when I was in John Lewis shopping with my now fiancé. I have loved this fragrance for months, ever since a sample was sent to me. In my opinion it’s the best of all the Jo Malone fragrances. It’s floral and light, but has a hint of rich fruitiness. It’s perfect for Spring and Summer.
Mavala Nail Polish in Sand Rose – I am a huge fan of Mavala polishes and I am building up quite a collection now. I liked this one because it was much warmer than the normal nudes you get. It’s a pinky peach on the nails with an ever-so subtle hint of pearlescent shine. It wears really well and looks great with everything. As I discovered the other day, it’s a great base for nail art designs too.
Liz Earle Instant Boost Skin Tonic – After my last toner disaster, I was quite nervous to try this, but I really didn’t need to be. It has suited my skin so well. The fragrance is a bit mature, but it leaves my skin feeling really fresh and clean but not dry or tight, thank goodness!
Body Shop Ceramic Crackled Oil Burner – I just think this oil burner is such a beautiful accessory for the home. It looks gorgeous, and gives a really lovely subtle fragrance to a room.
Necklace – This gorgeous necklace is from Marks and Spencer. I spotted it while out shopping for my birthday, I liked it instantly because its so colourful and I knew it would look great with loads of different outfits, but it was £15 so I decided not to buy it. I went off to have my hair cut and when I got back my amazing mum had bought it for me! I love it because it makes a statement without being over the top or too in your face. I have been wearing it with simple silver or black studs.
Modern Family – My last favourite this month is a TV show which I have been binge watching over the last few weeks. The first two seasons of Modern Family are on UK Netflix and I have been watching it so much I am almost done and will have to find season 3 elsewhere. I just think its the perfect show for some light relief, as it’s funny, the writing is clever, and it isn’t too long so will fit in any time.
L’Oreal Ever Riche Nourishing & Taming Shampoo and Conditioner – These are the products I have had in my shower this month and I love them. They smell like shea butter which is heavenly and they leave my hair in really good condition. I reviewed the conditioner a while back here.
Collection Extreme 24 Hour Felt Tip Liner – I go through phases of eyeliner a lot. I bought a couple of Collection felt tip liners a long time ago and wore them religiously for months. I then moved to pencil for a long while, and up until very recently I have been using liquid. Now that I am commuting and have a lot less time on my hands, I have migrated back to the Collection felt tips. They glide on effortlessly and are so easy to use so they take mere seconds to apply in the morning. They last all day as well. My only criticism is, you can’t curl your lashes after using them. If you do, the liner will rub straight off, no matter how long you left it to dry. This is frustrating, but luckily I have naturally curled lashes and a great mascara, so it’s not too much of a hard ship.
Kate Spade at Nails Inc. Big Red Apple Polish – Many of you will recognise this polish because it came free with Glamour magazine this month. I always buy Glamour instead of Cosmopolitan these days. It’s cheaper, has better stories, and has better free gifts! This polish is such a gorgeous red colour and is perfect for Christmas! I am all for orangey or pinky reds in Summer, but around Christmas time you really want a pure red red! I have been wearing it for most of the month. It is really opaque and, although it recommends two coats, you can get away with one. The only downside is, like all Nails Inc. polishes, I don’t think it has great staying power. If you haven’t put a top coat on it tends to start to chip towards the end of the nails by the end of the next day.
Accessorize Umbrella – It goes without saying that in the UK you need an umbrella pretty much all year round. The weather can be predictable, but only in the sense that it rains 9 days out of 10 in the Autumn. My trusty umbrella that I have had for a while broke earlier this month, so at lunch time I went looking for a bargain. I found this beautiful floral print umbrella in Accessorize and fell in love with it. The case for it was torn so I managed to negotiate a discount too!
MUA Undressed Eyeshadow Palette – I have had this palette for a long time, but as many of you will know, I have always favoured Heaven and Earth because I found the shades more wearable. I decided to fish Undressed out again towards the end of October and I have been wearing shades from it ever since. My favourites are marked below. I like to combine 1 and 5 or 3 and 5 for a shimmery evening look, or 2 and 4 for a smoky daytime look.
It’s officially that time of the month again! Time for October favourites! Seriously, where is this year going? It seems to be running away at a crazy speed and leaving me lagging behind! This month’s favourites is going to be quite a short post because I have pretty much stuck to the products I have been using religiously over the last few months and I haven’t really expanded my horizons much! How boring!
The first product I am not going to talk about in any detail because it featured in last month’s favourites too. It is, of course, Liz Earle Cleanse & Polish Hot Cloth Cleanser. The more I use it, the more I am beginning to understand the hype, so I might be forced to retract some of my earlier statements. I keep thinking I should try something new, but then I decide I simply can’t bear to!
The closer towards Winter we get, the more I am using my Nina by Nina Ricci fragrance. I wouldn’t particularly describe it as an Autumn fragrance, but it still has a much less Summery feel than most of the other perfumes I own. If you haven’t smelt this before, I would describe it as a fresh, fruity scent with floral notes. I also love the little apple shaped bottle. It’s cute but still really easy to transport in a handbag or washbag if you are travelling.
Virtually every day since the cold weather set in I have been using this gorgeous purple pashmina. My lovely friend Montana bought this from me during her year in Paris. It is so beautiful and incredibly soft. I simply adore it! You can read about Montana’s French adventures here.
An absolute must as the cold weather sets in is lip balm and lip salve. No one wants dry, chapped lips! I use about three different lip products on a daily basis at the moment. I keep one on my desk at work, one in my bag, and one at home in my make-up bag. The Pink Bubbly Vaseline is one of my favourites at the moment. It’s pink and it smells like champagne. What’s not to love? It was supposedly limited edition when it was released, but it still seems to be around!.
I am still hunting high and wide for a really good hand cream. Regular readers of my blog will know that I am incredibly fussy about the hand creams I use, and with good reason. If I don’t use a good one, my hands suffer so much and look terrible. I decided to try this Garnier Intensive 7 Days Protecting Hand Cream when I spotted it on a shelf in the supermarket. I am getting on quite well with it so far. It doesn’t seem too wet but it is still smooth and easy to use and it seems to be doing the job. I will post a full review in a few weeks’ time.
