Lush Ro’s Argan Body Conditioner

I first tried a tiny sample of Ro’s Argan Body Conditioner about 5 years ago and I absolutely loved it, but I could never justify the price tag while I was a struggling student. A few weeks ago I finally treated myself to a full size tub and I was so excited.

Ro’s Argan Body Conditioner is a thick, creamy body moisturiser you apply to wet skin in the shower or bath. You rinse it off and then pat your skin dry. It’s exactly like a hair conditioner, but for your skin. It smells amazing, like a sweeter, caramel rose scent, if that makes sense. It’s not heavily old granny floral, it’s much more modern.

This product appeals to my sense of laziness. I hate waiting for moisturiser to dry before I can get dressed after a shower, so this is perfect for me.  I don’t find it makes my skin as soft and hydrated as a good quality moisturiser, but it’s great if you are pushed for time (or lazy).

Unfortunately, this product is not at all like I remembered. The scent is the same, because it’s still fabulous, but I feel like the formula has changed. When I apply this  in the shower it makes me feel like I have wax on my skin. It doesn’t absorb the way I remembered it to. I really don’t like the feeling on my skin that much and I can never wait to rub it off properly with my towel. What a disappointment.

Does anyone know the feeling I mean? I feel like I’m going crazy!

June 2014 Favourites

Rimmel Apocalips Lip Lacquers – These lip lacquers are pretty fantastic, as I think you will probably have heard from other bloggers and vloggers. They are super pigmented, come in a gorgeous range of colours, look really shiny and glossy, and last really well!

Yankee Candle Black Plum Blossom – This smells so delicious – a gorgeous hybrid between floral and fruity. Also, have I mentioned I love Yankee Candle? I have been burning this candle for ages and still it’s going!

Body Shop Coconut Body Butter – My fiancé got me this body butter for Christmas and I have been loving using it during the hot weather to add some much needed moisture back into my skin. Coconut is probably not a scent I would immediately pick and I really don’t know why, because this smells delicious!

Trek Protein Flapjacks – I have been totally obsessed with these recently. They are way better for you than standard flapjacks because they have slightly lower sugar, no horrible E numbers, and around 10g of protein per bar. They come in loads of different flavours. I think my favourites are Cocoa and Cocoa Coconut.

Whittards Very Very Berry Tea – I spotted this about a month ago and held out for a bit, but eventually caved and bought it. It looks fantastic and good for you, it smells totally delicious (hints of vanilla), and tastes incredible – so fruity!

Accessorize Earrings – I think these might have featured in a favourites post before. They are a cute pair of Accessorize earrings which one of my closest friends got me for my birthday this year. They are so cute and Summery.

Liz Earle Nourishing Botanical Body Cream

I have been banging on about Liz Earle Cleanse & Polish Hot Cloth Cleanser for so long that it was about time someone took my advice and bought it. I have now got my best friend hooked on it, and it turns out she told Liz Earle I had recommended it to her, so they sent me a free gift: Liz Earle Nourishing Botanical Body Cream. Apologies for the quality of the photo, I took it on my phone.

The Botanical Body Cream retails at £17.95, but you can get a sample of 30ml for £5.25 on the Liz Earle website.

I had no idea what this product was or what to expect. According to Liz Earle, it is a concentrated, hydrating body cream designed to help the skin retain moisture throughout the day. It contains shea butter and avocado oil,  pure orange, lavender and rose-scented geranium essential oils. Sounds like an odd combination right?

I have to be honest, the fragrance of this body cream turns me off a bit. Like most of Liz Earle’s products, it has a very mature scent. The most powerful smell I get from this product is the geranium, which doesn’t really do it for me.

The formula of the cream on the other hand is perfect for me. It is really light and doesn’t feel at all heavy or cakey. I use this straight after a shower and it absorbs into my skin so quickly that I can put my clothes on almost straight away. It doesn’t feel sticky or damp at all.

Unfortunately scent is a hugely important part of a body cream to me so while I will use this up, I won’t repurchase it.

Body Shop Ginger Sparkle Shimmer Lotion

I was in two minds about whether to write a post on this product, as it isn’t available in the shops at the moment. The Body Shop’s ginger range was limited edition at Christmas 2013, which is when I was given this. In the end I decided to write this, partly because it is bound to be back next year and partly because you can get it on places like eBay and Amazon if you look hard enough.

The Ginger Sparkle Shimmer Lotion is very much exactly what it sounds like. It’s a ginger scented body lotion which leaves shimmer on the skin.

First thing’s first: scent. Boy is this one strong! It might have a picture of the gingerbread man on the front, but I wouldn’t say it really smells like that. It’s more like pure ginger, rather than the added Christmas spices. It’s a nice smell (if you like ginger) but it’s a bit of an odd scent to be rubbing on your skin. It’s definitely an acquired taste (and would have been much better to use at Christmas time than in March…).

Next, let’s talk sparkle. Does this shimmer? Why yes it does. You don’t notice when you initially apply it, but the minute you catch the light, your skin will glisten or shimmer, but not in an excessive way (that would look a bit silly). It would be great to apply before a night out to make you feel a bit more glam.

The lotion itself is an absolute dream to apply. It glides on super easily and absorbs within minutes. I find the Body Shop Body Butters leave the skin feeling a bit claggy for ages after, but you can virtually put your clothes straight on after using this. That makes me think it’s more of a product for the shimmer and Christmas sparkle than it is for hard core moisturising your product.

All in all, it’s not my favourite product in the world, but it would be great to get you in the festive spirit in the run up to Christmas and before a Christmas party. I think I am now going to put mine away till November. I look forward to getting it out again when I need some festive cheer!

February 2014 Empties

Simple Kind to Skin Refreshing Facial Wash Gel – I bought this little travel sized face wash to try in the shower and got on really well with it. I didn’t have to be super careful not to get it in my eyes because it’s very gentle. It made my face feel nice and clean without making it dry. I’d repurchase this.

Body Shop Chocomania Body Butter – Delicious smelling deep moisturising body butter, perfect for when you need some indulgence.

Lush Snow Fairy Shower Gel – One of the Christmas goodies from Lush. If you have a preference for super sweet scents, keep an eye out for this towards the end of the year.

No 7 Beautiful Skin Hot Cloth Cleanser – Having finished the whole bottle my conclusion is that my skin doesn’t love this quite as much as Liz Earle Cleanse and Polish, but it worked perfectly well and is a great alternative if Liz Earle is a little too pricey for you.

Pantene Pro V Classic Care Conditioner – Pretty much my all time favourite conditioner.

Garnier Moisture Match Protect and Glow Illuminating Light Lotion – This is a very watery moisturiser which I found left my skin looking a little shiny and oily, rather than glowy. I didn’t hate it but I wouldn’t repurchase it. I much preferred the Mattifying Fresh Cream.

Body Shop Coconut Body Scrub – An absolutely delicious smelling body scrub with large particles to exfoliate the skin.

Lush Let the Good Times Roll Cleanser – This cleanser smells like cinnamon and popcorn and has popcorn pieces inside. It feels like it exfoliates as well as cleanses. The downsides are, if it gets in your hair the smell lingers for a long time, and it can’t be used in the eye area so you need a separate make-up remover.

Richard Ward Chelsea Collection: Keratin Rehab – A really nice deep, thick conditioning treatment for your hair.

Body Shop Chocomania Body Butter

I have had this body butter for quite some time now but I realise I haven’t yet written a full post yet.

If you’ve never used a Body Shop body butter before, imagine an incredibly thick moisturiser which you scoop out the tub and rub into your skin. They are incredibly moisturising so they are perfect for dry skin. As you rub it in it becomes even smoother and absorbs into the skin really well.

The Chocomania body butter was bought for me because I am an absolute chocoholic. It definitely doesn’t disappoint. It has a really rich, warm, chocolatey/cocoa scent. It lasts a really long time as well – your skin will still smell hours later! I recommend you pick a body butter that you like the smell of because you’ll be stuck with it for a fair while.

This product leaves my skin feeling so smooth and hydrated for hours and hours. A little goes a long way so this big tub has lasted me a good six months so far. It feels really luxurious and pampering, much more so than a normal moisturiser you might buy from Boots or Superdrug. The only slight downside is my skin does feel a little sticky for a while after using it and I have to wait for it to dry before I put my clothes on. Still, I highly recommend trying a Body Shop body butter if you haven’t, and giving the Chocomania range a smell if you love chocolate!

My Summer Essentials

The weather in the UK is so changeable at the moment. We’ve had everything from glorious boiling hot sun to pouring rain and strong winds in the last few months. However, with true British grit and determination and with continued hope for more sun, I have put together a list of my essential summer beauty products for hot weather.

First up, we all know it’s essential to use a really good sun screen. My absolute favourite is the Nivea Sun Invisible Protection Spray. I use SPF 30 for the UK weather. This is a transparent liquid which you spray onto your skin and rub in. It’s brilliant if you are running low on time and want something which won’t leave white marks even if you don’t spend a lot of time rubbing it in. The downside is, like most sun protection, it has that typical sun screen smell – chemicals, yum.

Following on from sun screen, I also like to have a bottle of after sun to hand.  I use the Nivea Sun Moisturising After Sun Spray. This is so cool and soothing after a day in the sun and is particularly good if your skin has burnt as it contains aloe vera. The spray bottle makes it very easy to use.

Another product which I think is essential for summer is a really good moisturiser. I don’t know about you but my skin does tend to dry out a bit in the summer time. I love using a body butter to add some well needed moisture back into the skin. I love the Body Shop Cocoa Body Butter because it smells divine!

Like most people, the minute I see sunshine I want to show off my legs in skirts and dresses. To make sure they look as good as possible, I always reach for my exfoliating gloves. Mine were really cheap from Boots. I use them with a body scrub or with my ordinary shower gel or body wash to get rid of dead skin cells and leave my legs looking and feeling smooth.

I always keep a big hair clamp close to hand in the summer time so I can really quickly put my hair up and get it off the back of my neck in hot weather. Sunglasses are also a must to protect my eyes from the sun and keep nasty pollen particles out of my eyes (hayfever is not my friend).

I hate wearing a lot of make up in hot weather but sometimes I do want a little bit of coverage if I am having a bad skin or low confidence day. That’s why I have been using my No 7 Triple Protection Tinted Moisturiser a lot this summer. I reviewed this product here if you’d like to read more about it.

Finally, in hot weather I tend to do less with my eyes because nothing looks worse than smudged eyeliner and also because I wear sunglasses a lot. Instead I tend to reach for bright, coral lipsticks. Two of my favourites are Rimmel Moisture Renew Lipstick in Coral Queen and Rimmel Lasting Finish Lipstick in Coral in Gold. The Coral in Gold shade has a gorgeous gold shimmer to it so it’s fantastic if you are going somewhere special.
