Summer Wishlist 2014

It’s been ages since I’ve done a wishlist post, largely because I have been completely spoilt rotten over Christmas and my birthday and have got virtually everything I could think of. However, as Summer is just around the corner, I have put my thinking cap on and come up with some things I would love to have tried by the end of the Summer. Perhaps it will give you some ideas of products to try!

Jo Malone Peony & Blush Suede Candle – I have the Peony & Blush Suede cologne by Jo Malone and it is just so delicious smelling – floral and fruity and fresh all at the same time. Why wouldn’t I want my house to smell like it to? I am also just a total candle junkie.

Nars Orgasm Blush – A friend let me try this a year ago and I have been wanting to purchase it ever since. It was basically the first blush which made me realise I can look good with blush! I’ve never looked back. It’s such a gorgeous shade and looks amazing for a night out.

Michael Todd Pumpkin Mask – After I had a complete disaster using Glam Glow’s Supermud mask (it completely broke me out like crazy) I am keen to get back on the horse and try another mask. I remember hearing great things about Michael Todd from Fleur de Force so I’d love to try it. The Pumpkin Mask in particular is supposed to be great for controlling problem skin.

Body Shop Vitamin E Hand and Nail Treatment – The other thing I am a junkie for is hand cream. I use it all the time, often more than once a day, otherwise my hands get dry and feel horrible. I really like the Body Shop Vitamin E range for the face, so I figure why not try the Hand and Nail Treatment?

Lush Turkish Delight Shower Smoothie – This is a body cleanser for in the shower which has a lovely rose scent. I haven’t tried any of the Lush Shower Smoothies yet, but I’d love to, especially as I can’t take baths so much any more. I think it would make my shower routine a bit more luxurious on days when I don’t just want to be in and out of the shower as quick as possible.

Soap and Glory Orangeasm Body Wash – I smelt this in the Boots the other day and I thought it smelt great. It’s much fruitier and fresher than a lot of Soap and Glory’s usual scents, so it will be interesting to try it out! Also, got to love that name!

Would you rather… tag

The lovely ginger loves make-up tagged me, asking me to do the Would you rather tag. As I haven’t done one in a while, I thought – why not!

1. Would you rather lose all of your mascaras, eyeliners, lipsticks, and lip glosses or lose all of your palettes and eye shadows?

Definitely eyeshadows and palettes. I think I could still create a lovely balanced look with a slick of eyeliner, mascara and a bold lip, but I’d look riddiculous with eyeshadow and no mascara.

Bye bye MUA palettes :(

Bye bye MUA palettes 😦

2. Would you rather chop off all your hair or never be able to cut it again?

I hate it when my hair gets too long because it gets in my way and annoys me, so I’d have to say I’d chop it off into a cute pixie crop (although I don’t think it would suit me) and then it would eventually grow back!

3. Would you rather have a coral cheek or a pink cheek?

I think coral would probably suit my colouring more.

4. If you had £1000 to spend, would you rather buy clothes or makeup?

Definitely clothes. People buy me make-up all the time, but I always buy my own clothes, and there’s a lot I’d like to replace.

5. Would you rather apply lipstick as eyeliner, or eyeliner as lipstick?

That’s a conundrum because eyeliner as lipstick would mean I basically had black or brown lips (I do own a couple of blues, but that isn’t much better), and lipstick as eyeliner would mean my eyelids were sticky. I think I’d go for lipstick as eyeliner on balance.

Lovely eyeliner colours?!

Lovely eyeliner colours?!

6. Would you rather only shop at MAC or Sephora?

Being a Brit, I don’t know anything about Sephora, so I’d say MAC.

7. Would you rather only use one eyeshadow color or one lip color for the rest of your life?

If I could blend different shades of the same colour, I’d go for eyeshadow, and it would be classic browns. If it had to be one shade, I’d choose the lipstick over the eyeshadow.

8. Would you rather wear winter clothes in summer or summer clothes in winter?

Hard question because I don’t want to freeze in winter OR boil in summer. As the UK weather is rarely hot enough to worry, I’d choose winter clothes in summer. Also winter clothes are layers of different things, so I could always take a few layers off.

9. Would you rather have dark nails or bright nails all year round?

I’d say bright colours, because it makes nail art more fun.

These wouldn't have looked half as cool without bright colour!

10. Would you rather give up your favorite lip product or your favorite eye product?

There is no way I am giving up my precious red YSL lipstick.

11. Would you rather only be able to wear your hair in a ponytail or a messy bun?

I like ponytails, but messy bun is my go-to look because it makes my wispy baby hairs less obvious, so I’d have to pick that.

12. Would your rather never be able to paint your nails again or never use lipgloss?

Easy question. I only own one lipgloss and that was a freebie. It annoys me because my hair sticks to it the second the wind blows…

It's pretty, but it doesn't compare to nail polish!

It’s pretty, but it doesn’t compare to nail polish!

13. Would you rather shave your eyebrows and have none at all or sharpie them in everyday?

I’d look rather bizzare without any eyebrows at all, so I guess I’d have to sharpie them in!

14. Would you rather live without makeup or nail polish?

I do love nail art and doing NOTD posts, but I think my face would look naked without make-up.

I would like everyone who wants to to do this tag, especially:

I had some spare time on my hands before going out to dinner the other night, so I thought I would take the time to photograph my make-up ready to do a FOTD post. I don’t do these very often as I am still a bit self concious about putting my face out there on the internet, so please be kind!

The basic face products I used were the ones I use pretty much every day at the moment: No 7 Stay Perfect Foundation in Calico, Maybelline Cover Stick Corrector Concealer in Ivory, a dusting of Collection Lasting Perfection Ultimate Wear Powder in Light and then Bourjois Blusher in Lilas D’Or.

I took a little bit of brown eyeshadow and applied it to my brows for a little more definition and darker colour. For my eyes, I decided to go for a smokey bronze look. Instead of eyeshadow primer, I used a cream eyeshadow as a base – CK Calvin Klein Tempting Glimmer Sheer Creme Eyeshadow in Vintage Metal.

I took this deep brown (1) from my MUA Heaven and Earth palette and blended into the outer corners of my eyes and into the crease. I then took a creamy colour (2) and blended it into the inner corners to really make my eyes pop. I used Collection Fast Stroke black liquid eyeliner and finished by curling my lashes and applying a couple of coats of Max Factor Clump Defy mascara.

Apologies for the blurry photo there!

To complete my look, I used Rimmel Moisture Renew Lipstick in Heather Shimmer. I get a lot of stick from some people for using such a 90’s lipstick shade, but I really think it’s a timeless colour and perfect for Autumn.

The Beauty Countdown to Your Wedding

Hello! This article is brought to you by Tammy at Naked Beauty Blog, don’t forget to check out Rebecca’s guest post over there too.

I got married just over 7 months ago now and in the midst of planning our wedding my skin was showing the tell-tale signs of stress, of course then I felt worse so I took action. Here’s my plan to get your beauty regime in check in time to face the cameras feeling wonderful.

Right away

Don’t hold out any longer, get your skin care sorted now. If you leave it too late you could end up with breakout’s, dry patches or oily skin on your big day. Never start a new regime 2 weeks or less before an event, this is the adjustment period for your skin. It’ll even out after this time and start to glow. Go to your nearest Dermalogica specialist and have your skin mapped, this will help you to know what care your skin needs and you’ll receive the best results.

Start getting regular trims and lay off the hair dye for a while, maybe have it done less often for now. You’ll want your hair in top condition for that top knot style you have your eye on.

Make sure you are eating healthily and getting your five-a-day, not only is this good for your skin and hair, it’ll also fight colds and illness in the busy run-up to the biggest day of your life.

2 Months to go

It’s getting exciting now, the dress is on order, the cake is booked and now it’s time for hair and makeup trials. Do your research and book a good stylist and makeup artist, many do both. Don’t be led by price alone, ask for a portfolio of previous work and ask friends and family for suggestions.

Book your trial for around 2 months before the big day then you have time to find someone else if you really aren’t happy. Go in with ideas of what you’d like but if it doesn’t suit you don’t be afraid to ask to try something different. Ask questions and let them advise you on colours and styles for you.

3 weeks to go

Treat you and your bridesmaids to a spa day, get pampered, relax and unwind. It’ll do you good to chill in the whirlwind that is wedding planning and see loved ones you may have neglected recently, maybe join it up with your hen do!

The day before

Anything that isn’t done now isn’t going to be done and you probably won’t even notice on the day so make sure you’re organised, wash your hair and relax, you’re getting married in the morning!

Getting into routine

Make sure you Cleanse, Tone and Moisturise twice daily, this will leave your skin healthy and in turn your makeup on the day will look smoother and more polished and will last to the first dance and beyond.

Every other day

Use a facial scrub and a lip scrub to rid you of any dead skin. That pout is going to be getting a lot of love on your big day and the last thing you want is sore, cracked lips. Wash your hair every other day to avoid disarming it of all it’s nutrients and natural oils.

Each week give your skin and hair a treat with intensive conditioning masks. You’ll notice a huge difference to your skin and hair within a few weeks of regular pampering

September 2013 Favourites

Body Shop Raspberry Shower Gel – I have had this on stand by for several months now and I have finally got round to trying it. Raspberry is one of my favourite scents so I had high hopes for this. I have not been disappointed. It smells incredible: fruity, rich and sweet.

Liz Earle Cleanse & Polish Hot Cloth Cleanser – I have linked my full review of this product below so I won’t talk about it in too much detail. I really like this cleanser. It removes make-up like a dream, even stubborn waterproof mascara, and it doesn’t irritate my eyes. I don’t think it lives up to the incredible hype that surrounds it (quite frankly I think it would have to literally sing and dance to do that) but its still pretty great.

Primark Snood – I loved this snood from Primark as soon as I bought it and my love hasn’t faded. It is so more convenient than a scarf because you don’t have to worry about trying to tie it in a nice way that won’t come undone in blustery English weather. I think its the perfect accessory for Autumn outfits.

No 7 Stay Perfect Liquid Foundation – This is the foundation which I got a sample of for my best friend’s wedding. I loved it so much that I went back to the shop and bought it earlier this month. I’m going to do a full review of this in a few days but here’s a spoiler for my dedicated readers! This is probably one of the best liquid foundations I have tried. It lasts so well all day long and gives me flawless coverage without feeling too cakey. The shade the No 7 assistant helped me pick out is also the perfect match for my skin.

Collection Fast Stroke Liquid Liner – I have recently got back into liquid liner in a big way, so for the most part my collection of pencil liners are taking a well earned rest. I absolutely love this Collection liner. The applicator is just the right size and shape to apply your liner the way you like – either a thin, delicate line or a thick, dramatic one. It also lasts really well, smudge free. It’s amazing value for money.

Very Inspiring Blogger Award

The lovely Lorraine from Rainey Loves Colouring nominated me for the Very Inspiring Blogger Award. Lorraine is an incredibly talented artist and I really urge you to go and check out her blog, she creates some really amazing artwork.

The rules are to thank and link back to the blogger who has nominated you, post the award logo to your blog, write a post on the nomination and nominate 10 other very inspiring bloggers. Notify them; and tell 7 things about yourself.

So here are seven things about me:

1. I am so excited that I nearly have 100 followers on my blog now. I am so chuffed with this as my blog is still very young. I plan to do a giveaway to celebrate when I hit 100!

2. My most viewed post of all time is my very first post – my nail polish collection (which has significantly expanded since I wrote it!)

3. My latest beauty discovery is blusher. I am completely obsessed with it now.

4. I adore owl things. I have owl earrings, owl cushions, an owl necklace and so many other things. If I see something with owls on I have to buy it.

5. I spend far too much of my spare time watching beauty YouTube videos.

6. I have glasses which I wear at the theatre, for watching TV and whilst driving. I only got them 6 months ago so I still think I look odd when I put them on but I do love them. They are a gorgeous deep purple colour and are by Karen Millen.

7. The ring you see me wearing in all my NOTD photos is from Pandora and was a gift from my boyfriend a few years ago. I haven’t taken it off since.

So now it’s my turn to nominate some people. These are some of the blogs I love to read and the bloggers who inspire me to carry on writing.
